Asking for a price

Since you’ll be talking to us anyway, have a few things ready. First, the part number from your manual or the old board. Second, a couple of clear photos of the old board, one of each side. Third, a short description of what the dryer is doing, and since when. That last one matters most. If the symptoms point somewhere other than the board, it’s better to find out before you pay for one.

Send it all through our support contact page, or phone the number above and we’ll talk it through.

About the SAMD51 chip

A microcontroller is a small computer on one chip, with a processor, memory and input/output pins in a single package. The SAMD51 is one of Microchip’s microcontroller families, built on an ARM Cortex-M4F core. That “F” means the core includes a hardware floating-point unit. It can do math on numbers with fractions in hardware instead of grinding through it in software. Arm’s Cortex-M cores turn up in a huge range of embedded products. Wikipedia’s ARM Cortex-M page lists the variants if you want the background.

You don’t need any of that to swap the board. It does help with matching parts, though.

Matching it to your old board

  • Part number E00108-00 in your manual’s parts list, or on a label on the board.
  • A ribbon/FPC connector, a USB-C port and blue screw terminals, laid out as in our photo.
  • SAMD51 somewhere in the printed marking on the main chip.

Chip markings are small, and a phone camera with zoom reads them better than most eyes do. If the main chip on your old board doesn’t say SAMD51, you may have a different board, so check with us before going further.

Handling a SAMD51 board

Unplug the dryer at the wall before opening it. Photograph every connection on the old board from directly above, screw terminals included. Ground yourself on bare metal or wear an ESD strap. Microcontrollers are sensitive to static, and a discharge you don’t feel can leave a board that half works. That’s harder to diagnose than one that’s plainly dead.

For the flat cable, open the connector’s latch first (it flips up or slides out) and pull the cable straight out by its stiffener. Refit it square, contacts facing the same way as before, and close the latch. Then check it again. A cable that’s sitting slightly crooked can pass a quick glance and still miss a contact.

The blue screw terminals

Back each screw off a couple of turns before pulling its wire. Most terminals of this kind clamp the wire under a plate that rises as you loosen the screw, so a half-loosened screw leaves the wire trapped. When you refit, push the bare end all the way in, keep insulation out from under the clamp, and tighten until the wire won’t pull free with a firm tug. A stray strand touching the next terminal is the classic mistake. Look before you power up.

When the board isn’t the problem

A new circuit board is an expensive way to test a hunch. Rule out the cheap things first. If you fit a SAMD51 board and the same fault shows up, check every connection against your photos first: cable latches closed, terminal screws tight, nothing plugged in one position over. If those are right, the fault is likely elsewhere, maybe a sensor, a cable or another board. Call or write with what you’re seeing and we’ll help you narrow it down. Our electronics parts also include the buffer board and the cables pictured above.
