About this product

A Blue Alpine sticker with the mountain logo, for $1.25. It’s a small thing, and that’s the point. Stick it on the toolbox where you keep your spare parts, the bins your freeze-dried food goes into, or the cart the vacuum pump rides on.

Good spots for a Blue Alpine sticker

Stickers hold best on surfaces that are smooth, hard and clean. Glass, painted metal, hard plastic and sealed wood all work. A few ideas:

  • Storage bins or shelf edges in the pantry where the finished food lives
  • A toolbox, parts drawer or tackle box
  • A laptop lid or tablet case
  • A cooler or a hand-washed water bottle
  • The shelf or cart next to the dryer

Some places to skip: anything that gets hot, anything that stays wet, and anything you’d sand or scrub hard. Don’t cover rating plates, warning labels, vents or controls either. And rough, textured or dusty surfaces won’t give the adhesive much to hold onto, no matter how carefully you press.

On food storage bins

A Blue Alpine sticker on the end of a bin is a quick way to mark which tote holds the freeze-dried food. It doesn’t replace labels on the bags inside, though. Write the contents and the date you sealed each bag with a permanent marker, ideally before you fill it, while the surface is flat. Put the Blue Alpine sticker on the short end of the bin if you stack them, so it still shows when they’re on a shelf.

How to apply a Blue Alpine sticker cleanly

This is the usual method for vinyl stickers and decals, and it works for most other stickers too. Takes five minutes.

  • Clean the spot with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth, then let it dry. Soapy water can leave a film behind.
  • Work at room temperature. Adhesive grips poorly on a cold surface, so don’t do this in an unheated garage in January.
  • Position it with tape. Lay the sticker where you want it, backing still on, and run a strip of masking tape across the top edge. That’s your hinge.
  • Peel and lower. Flip the sticker up on its hinge, peel off the backing, and lower it slowly from the taped edge down.
  • Press from the center out with a credit card or your thumb, pushing air toward the edges.
  • Deal with bubbles. If one won’t push out, prick it with a pin and press the air through the hole.
  • Leave it alone for a day or so before washing that surface.

Pull the masking tape off last, once the sticker is down.

Getting a sticker off again

Warm it with a hair dryer for 20 or 30 seconds to soften the adhesive. Lift a corner with a fingernail or a plastic card, then peel slowly, folding the sticker back over itself and keeping it low to the surface. Any glue left behind usually comes off with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth. Keep metal scrapers away from paint and plastic.

Blue Alpine sticker questions

Is it waterproof, or OK outdoors?

The listing doesn’t give a water or UV rating, so we won’t promise either. Indoors, somewhere it stays dry, is the safe bet. If you want it on something that lives outside, call us first and we’ll tell you what we know.

Can it go on the freeze dryer?

That’s up to you. Pick a clean, flat panel, and keep the Blue Alpine sticker clear of vents, warm areas, labels and anything you need to read or press.
